What is a Zero-Suction Footwell?
SubZero spas are engineered with a Zero-Suction Footwell, meaning there are no suction fittings located in the footwell area where bathers naturally rest their feet. Instead of relying on a floor-mounted suction, SubZero uses smart circulation design to keep the footwell clean and comfortable without exposed fittings.
Why Zero-Suction Matters
In most hot tubs, suction fittings are placed directly in the footwell. While common, this approach comes with several drawbacks:
- Footwell suctions are vulnerable to damageThese fittings are frequently stepped on during normal use. Over time, repeated pressure can lead to cracking or failure at the fitting or plumbing connection.
- Repairs are difficult and disruptiveBecause footwell suctions sit at the lowest point of the spa, repairs are notoriously challenging. In many cases, the hot tub must be fully drained and physically lifted or tipped to access the damaged area.
- Typically excluded from warranty coverageDamage to footwell suction fittings is generally considered wear-related and is often not covered under manufacturer warranties, leaving owners responsible for repair costs.
The SubZero solution
Rather than placing a suction fitting in the footwell, SubZero eliminates it entirely and replaces it with a smarter approach:
- Zero suction fittings in the footwell. Nothing to step on, break, or obstruct foot space.
- Dedicated sweeper jet for debris removal. A strategically positioned sweeper jet gently moves sand, dirt, and debris out of the footwell and directs it toward the spa’s filtration system, keeping the lowest area of the tub clean without relying on a floor suction.
- Cleaner design, fewer failure points. By removing plumbing from the lowest point of the spa, the system reduces long-term maintenance risks and avoids one of the most failure-prone areas found in traditional designs.
